Match Report

Result: Won 2, Lost 2

We played two mini triangular tournaments at the festival. The first round of matches saw us up against Westbourne ‘B’ and Barlborough ‘B’. We had the lion’s share of possession against both of these teams and scored freely. We tried to place a great deal of emphasis on passing between ourselves and limiting players to three touches on the ball before looking for a team mate. Having negotiated these teams successfully, we were ‘moved up’ to face the toughest teams at the festival - Birkdale and Mylnhurst, both schools from Sheffield. There were some talented players at Birkdale (one the son of a professional player) and though we struggled to make many forays into the opposition penalty area we stuck to the task and showed great fortitude and resilience in a battling performance. The final match against the unbeaten Mylnhurst was a much closer encounter, and I was extremely proud of the approach of our players. James F and Keagan were indefatigable in their application, superbly supported by Rory S, Sam and Ellis at the back and Ben managed to pull off some super saves. We put together several breakaway attacks but unfortunately could not get the goal that our performance deserved.
