On Friday we competed in the first round of the ESAA Cross Country Cup. This was a new addition to the calendar for our Y7/8 pupils this year and it was great to field both a boys and girls team. The competition was well attended with a good number of East Midlands schools competing.
The course saw the girls run a 2250m and the boys an epic 2920m. Though it was a flat course, it certainly challenged our runners. With a team of just four and four to count as a team, every place mattered! Captain, Florence L, led by example winning the U13 girls race comfortably. Charlotte T was our second counter, crossing the line in an impressive 8th position. Kitty and Annabelle were competing a year young as Year 7s but dug in and performed well. Kitty impressed and was delighted to finish in 12th place. Annabelle battled hard despite finding it tough but she did a great job for the team to ensure we got our team placing. Overall, the girls scored very well indeed, narrowly missing out on qualifying, finishing in 4th place.
The boys had a tough run but again worked incredibly hard over the long two lap course. Rupert led the St Hugh’s contingent and gradually worked away to get himself across the line in a very impressive 9th place. Rupert, Charlie and Will, like the two girls, were also running a year young so they should be pleased with their performance. Aydin had a good run finishing in the top 25 from a strong field.
Though we did not qualify for the next round, it was great to see St Hugh’s competing at this event. Well done to all competitors.
