Geography trip to Whisby

As part of the work that Year 5 are doing on 'Water' in Geography the class visited Whisby Nature reserve. The morning activity was focused on making the water from the lake safe to drink. The pupils built a water filter from sand, charcoal, leaves and stones. They filtered the water and then boiled it for two minutes to kill any bacteria. We all then had some delicious hot chocolate! The afternoon session focused on examining the life that was in the lake. We found 18 different animal species, this was a record apparently!
