Match Report

Result: Lost

It was a really high standard of tournament cricket we faced at the IAPS competition at Oundle. We played four matches against schools we do not usually face in short, seven over inning matches. Against some of the stronger teams we performed brilliantly, especially with the bat as we stubbornly protected our wickets, though we found it a tall order to accrue many runs.

1.  Against The Perse School we were 31-4 after seven overs, they reached 34-0 off 2.1 overs.
2.  St Hugh’s 43-2; MKPS 47-0 off 3 overs
3.  The Elms 68-3; St Hugh’s 41-0 (Rory P retiring at 26 runs)

We had one match against King’s St Alban’s that went right to the wire. We bowled well and skittled them out for 50 runs - the highlight being a splendid caught and bowled by George P. Unfortunately we were rather profligate with our wickets this time, and after Rory P got bowled for 22 runs we experienced a mini-collapse. We ended up needing 2 runs from the last ball; with no option but to run, George P nearly made a single which would have seen us tie scores but win by one wicket. Unfortunately he was run out leaving our total one short at 49 all out.
I was really proud of the team, captained superbly by Rory P, as they all dug in with their batting against some very strong bowlers. Our bowling was pleasing too - special mention must go to Miles and Callan, who have honed their bowling technique carefully over the season and bowled with accuracy and persistence. Both picked up wickets during the day, as did each one of our bowlers - great effort boys!
