Match Report

We made the long journey to Bedford to play in the first round of the national IAPS U13 cup. We had the honour of playing on the school 1st XI pitch with its impressive pavilion which contained photos and memorabilia of Bedford school old boy and England legend Sir Alistair Cook.
Euan won the toss and asked Bedford to bat first. It soon became clear that Bedford were very strong. They can select from over 180 boys and all 11 of their team play for a county team. Their opening batsmen scored freely; one retired on 50 not out and the other scored a very impressive 100!  We did take two wickets through Euan and Josh N.
Charles, Euan and Rory all bowled 5 overs each and Sam H was our most economical bowler, bowling 2 overs for 11 runs. After 25 overs Bedford had reached 220 for 2.
When it was our turn to bat we faced some quite quick and accurate bowling. Rory S, however, batted very well whilst his team mates struggled around him. Toby O had a quick cameo of 16 runs, all in boundaries but no one else managed to reach double figures. The last 3 batsmen fell in consecutive balls leaving Rory on 30 not out.
Although we were heavily defeated, it was a great experience to play at Bedford School and all the boys kept trying until the end.
