Match Report

Result: Boys: P3; W2; L1

We travelled to Pocklington to take part in the Pocklington 6’s Cricket tournament.

We took a boys and girls team who each played 3 games of 5 overs throughout the afternoon with a short break to tea in between.

The girls kicked off their campaign with a game against Tranby. They then went on to play the hosts Pocklington. We then had a short break for tea before taking the field for our final game against Scarborough. The girls batted exceptionally well

The boys enjoyed a thrilling first game against Terrington Hall. A good exhibition of St Hugh’s fielding during the first four overs of the Terrington innings saw us restrict their runs well. However, some panicky throws at the stumps in the final over led to unnecessary runs given away, and they ended up with 35-1 from 5 overs. Rory S and Will L opened for us and struck up a good partnership. They held fast - with some excellent stroke play and with help from some extras - our openers overhauled the target on the penultimate ball of the innings.

The second game versus the hosts was a trickier match and, batting first, we struggled to score quickly enough. Scoring just 17 was always going to be difficult to defend, however, we bowled very tightly and fielded with alacrity. Euan grabbed a wicket in the fourth over and we got deep into the final over before they reached their target with a boundary.

In our final match against Scarborough College, they got off to a flying start, scoring 13 off the first over. However, we stalled their progress in the following over as James collected two wickets, both caught assuredly by Will L at mid-on and then Euan P at mid-off, for the loss of just one run. They ended up with a total of 33. Again, Will L and Rory S paired up as openers, and again, they both carried their bats and saw us through to a comfortable win with one over to spare. Will L unbeaten on 15.
