Match Report

Result: Played 5 games; won 4, lost 1

The U11B team travelled to Worksop College this Wednesday for a festival hosted by Ranby. There were five other schools taking part, some of which we do not have the chance to play in other fixtures, so plenty of gameplay in store!

The team got off to a good start in their first match against Brooke Priory. They were up against a strong all-boys team and had to revert to some quite defensive play, but put up a good fight and lost the game 1-0. Lulu was nominated girl of the game by the opposition for some fantastic saves in goal.

Against Westbourne, the girls got more into attacking mode, and came away with a 4-0 win. However, we rather clumped together on the pitch and needed to start making better use of the space.

This was much improved in our next game against Highfields, where we saw much more teamwork as the girls spread out and communicated well across the pitch. An excellent assist from Michelle and follow-up by Olivia in the D secured us a 1-0 win. India seemed to be everywhere all at once in this game too! Again having a tricky job as lone sweeper, she rose to the challenge and sent the ball far and wide!

Further improvements were made against Ranby - in some ways a tougher game - but Charlotte made some brilliant runs up the wing and secured an impressive goal. Olivia had swapped with Lulu in goal, and both took to their new roles well. This match also finished on a 1-0 win.

Our final match against a very enthusiastic side from Nottingham High saw the girls on a strong finish. With strong defenders on the Nottingham team, the girls had to work hard in their attack, trying different tactics and being careful not to crowd the ball. Great teamwork again on display, with two excellent finishes from Tabitha securing our 2-0 win.

Congratulations to Tabitha, who was nominated girl of the game by Highfields, and particularly to Charlotte, nominated as girl of the game in three of our matches and who won a prize at the end of the festival for her excellent play.

A fantastic afternoon of hockey and a great chance for the girls to show how far they’ve progressed this season. Thank you very much to Ranby for organising and hosting.
