St Hugh’s Tag Rugby Festival

We welcomed St George's Prep, Greenwich House and Ayscoughfee Hall for our annual U9 Tag Rugby Festival.

This year, the two St Hugh's Teams - red and blue - were supported by our Year 7 & 8 boys who did a fantastic job of managing, coaching and refereeing the games.

Well done to everyone for a fantastic afternoon of rugby. Jude D-C and George C summarised the afternoon perfectly:

Match Report by Jude D-C (Year 7) for the Blue Team
The Under 8/9 tag rugby festival on Wednesday 6th of November was a very successful competition. I saw some fantastic rugby and great potential in players. I was asked to look after St Hugh’s Blues for the tournament. We started with an introduction to the festival where we were told the core values of rugby. After this every team went to their first game as St Hugh’s Blues and I went to do some training with Rupert, Charles and Fergus, where they played Stuck In The Mud and Grab The Tag. After 15 minutes went by it was time for the teams to rotate. My Blues team started on the Blue pitch where they played Greenwich House. There was some great running in this game and they also held their defensive line really well. I was very impressed with the standard of rugby they played. After the 15 minute game ended they played Ayscoughfee Hall. Both sides played well, with Ayscoughfee having a really quick runner but we still kept our defence strong and stopped their attacks. The next match they played was against St George’s. They played well and tracked their defenders fantastically. The final game the St Hugh’s Blues played was against St Hugh’s Reds. They were the toughest opponent so far but they still played great doing everything they had done in the games before. At the end of the game we headed to the pavilion for the presentations. Each school was awarded with a different core value of rugby award. St Hugh’s Blues were awarded with the Enjoyment Award. I was very impressed with them and I can't wait to hopefully do it again.

Match Report by George C (Year 7) for the Red Team
On Wednesday 6th November the U8/9 St Hugh’s Reds made an astonishing performance and achieved the Teamwork Award.
After a quick warm-up we were ready to play our first game. In the first game the standout players were Charlie S and Harvey K. After our first game we went to the Skill Zone accompanied by Charles, Rupert and Fergus where we played ‘rugby bulldog’ and ‘stuck in the mud’. After the Skill Zone we played our second match. We played brilliantly again and the standout players in that game were Josh W and Hugo H-S. We were ready to play our third game and we kept on playing amazingly well - the standout players were George G and Otto L. We finished our last game in style and I thought the standout players were the whole team for a brilliant game. Well done boys and well played to the other schools.
