Match Report
Result: Won 2, Drawn 2
Playing for ten minutes at a time we had four fixtures against Grantham, Wellow, Greenwich House and St George’s.
All the games were very tight and very closely fought. In our first game, neither team could carve out any decent opportunities and though we seemed to have most of the possession, we found it difficult to string together many passes. We were a little susceptible to the counter-attack too, and Ellis and Ben had to be vigilant at the back. It finished 0-0. We seemed to get some passes amongst ourselves in the second game, though again it was a tough battle. James F finally broke the deadlock after swiftly pinching the ball from a defender and slipping the ball past the keeper adroitly. Another victory followed in the third game and there was some promising interplay. Ellis surprised everybody, including himself, with a lovely dribble up the pitch and a neat finish (albeit against some questionable defending). George then showed a touch of class with a powerful drive into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Finally we played St George’s and we fell behind rather carelessly early on. However, we showed good resilience to force our way back into the game and created good chances. James F produced a fine solo effort to equalize, and though there was a bit of a goalmouth scramble later on, we could not force the whole of the ball over the line for the winner.
Well played boys - excellent battling performances!
