Match Report
Result: Won 4, Drew1
It was great to have all eleven Year 5 boys available for the Stamford Rugby Festival. As we are a smaller school than the other schools at the festival, we were put in the ‘B’ team group. However, the boys played so well in their first match against Stamford School B team, winning 5 tries to 0 that it was decided that we should go in the ‘A’ team group… the premier league! Matches were going to get tough! Our next match was against Witham Hall A team. Despite the opposition having some big, fast boys, we tackled superbly, passed well and ran with determination. We won the match 4-2 which is a fantastic achievement. This was followed by a draw against Laxton School and a narrow win against Leicester Grammar. Our final match was against Stamford School A. It was clear that we would not be able to run through them as we did against their B team in the first match. Instead, the boys held onto possession when tackled and passed the ball early in order to create space. They dominated the match and won 4-2. A great all round performance going unbeaten all afternoon. All the players performed superbly, but special mention to William C, Max, A-J, Toby and Rupert for their tackling and Charles, Charlie, Elais, William L, Euan and Fergus for their running with the ball. For Toby and William C this was their first ever match for St Hugh’s and for everyone it was their first game of contact rugby for the school. Great team work and a great team spirit. Thank you for all the support from the parents too.
