Reports

Under 11A

With numerous absences we faced an experienced Witham team. Freddie N made his first appearance this season and acquitted himself very well with a non-stop performance. Likewise Morgan D played his first match and showed some good quality touches. Charlie H was drafted in as keeper and showed excellent handling and kept us in the game with some impressive reflex saves. St Hugh’s started brightly and we scored early on through William B who turned and shot crisply into the corner of the net from the edge of their box. The remainder of the first half was tight with both teams creating chances. Witham scored two goals late in the half to go into the break in the lead. The second half started with some excellent passing and moving up the pitch by St Hugh’s and we continued to create good chances though we were unfortunate not to convert any. The game grew increasingly stretched with play switching from defence to attack and back again very swiftly in our search for an equalizer. Witham managed to extend their lead midway through the half with a rather unusual goal and then added another a little later. Henry B worked tirelessly back and forth and should have been rewarded with a goal after a battling display. Will H got stuck in too and helped set up several attacks. Matthew K looked imperious at the back and his reading of the game was impressive. We can consider ourselves unlucky not to have got something from the game and I hope that the effort and cohesion we showed here can be taken into the coming matches.

Under 11 B

On Saturday we hosted Witham Hall. We were a little depleted due to illnesses and we were certainly a smaller than most of the year 6 Witham Boys!

We were generally defending for most of the game but I cannot fault the effort that the team put in. Jamie S and Louis C never stopped running and alongside Sam N and Freddie R in defence managed to prevent a number of goals. Witham were 2-0 up at half time when Henry L took Toby’s place in goal. Henry made some impressive saves and Toby played skilfully in his wide position. Jack B came closest to scoring; just missing the goal from close range and Ethan C also had a couple of shots.  The final score was 4-0 but it was an enjoyable match to referee.
