Report
Under 11 V COPTHILL A&B
Copthill brought along their A and B Netball team on Wednesday afternoon to play against our U11 girls. We played four ten minute quarters with Copthill alternating their A and B team. All our Year 5/6 girls played a minimum of two quarters with the majority experiencing more than one position on court. St Hugh's were pleased to score in every quarter, totalling 11 goals. A positive start!
St Hugh's won the toss and Esme rightly opted to take the first centre pass. It was clear from the outset that Copthill A's were well drilled and there court movement was very good. They quickly intercepted the ball and St Hugh's worked hard to regain possession. Copthill worked well as a team to feed the ball into their circle and with height on their side, managed to covert on a number of occasions. St Hugh's kept their heads up and created some good attacking opportunities. Alice found the net in the first quarter following a well fed ball from Esme.
The second quarter saw some changes for St Hugh's and the girls will now warmed up and ready to take on Copthill B team. We intercepted the ball early on and worked the ball into the circle quickly. Esme and Gabby worked well together and we had lots of scoring opportunities. Esme converted three of these to take the lead, with Gabby having a few near misses. Our GK and GD worked hard to defend the shot and kept the score in our favour at 3-1 to St Hugh's.
The third quarter was tough but St Hugh's worked tirelessly to stick with their opponent. Unfortunately Copthill were that bit quicker to find space and our girls became unsettled. There were some fantastic interceptions made by a number of players, particularly Aurora as GK and Alice did manage to score once again in this quarter. Annabell also impressed me in her role as WA. We lost this quarter 6-1.
The final quarter was exciting to watch and there was some super court linkage. Esme, Alice and Annabell worked well together and transitioned the ball into the circle very effectively. There was some good supportive play around the circle edge by our C and WA and it was encouraging to see Gabby using these players in order to gain a better shooting position. Esme's shooting improved as the game progressed and the team were delighted to win this quarter 6-2. Well done to all players!
