U11 Football Festival

We had a fantastic afternoon hosting our U11 Football Festival.

Welcoming five schools (Greenwich House, St George’s Prep, Wellow House, Highfields and Grantham), everyone was eager to play their first football match of the Spring Term.

Thank you to all schools for visiting us for and well done to all the players!

The St Hugh’s Match Reports are as follows:

Year 5/6 Football

Result: Won 2, Drew 2, Lost 1

The first football of the season was a very enjoyable afternoon of ten minute games against a good variety of school teams. In all the matches we did well in dominating the games and created numerous opportunities to score. Finishing our chances often proved to be the stumbling block. We looked solid in defence with some disciplined performances from Max, Euan B, Jenson and Charles - the last two pupils having a stint or two in goal as well, alternating with A-J. The threat we carried further up the pitch with William L, Aydin and Toby O caused every team problems with some good interplay between them now and again. The performances were promising and with more composure with our passing and shooting we should have a successful season ahead.

Year 5 Football

Result: Won 3, Lost 2

The sun was shining and the Year 5s had a very enjoyable afternoon playing five 10 minute football matches against the visiting teams. The first game against Greenwich House was a close game, with AJ making a couple of excellent saves before we scored the only goal. We then lost against a  strong Highfields team and narrowly lost the next one too! We did finish off with two wins against Wellow and our Year 6 team (2-1). Well done to William in defence, Charlie, Fergus, Rupert and Elais in midfield and Euan as the striker!

Year 6 Football

Result: Lost 4, Drew 1

The Y6 team had a number of challenging matches over the afternoon, and though the majority were settled by only one goal, it was unfortunately not a goal for us. However, there were definite signs of improvement throughout the afternoon as the boys got more comfortable with their positions and knowing where each other were. There were standout performances in each of the games - Wilf in particular was industrious in midfield in each of the games and also our main goal scorer. However, our aim has to be ensuring that our passes go to our team mates more frequently.
