Result: Drew 3-3

A mixed Under 11 team played a game of four quarters against Grantham on Wednesday. We started brightly and were soon creating chances and Toby O gave us the lead with a cleverly curled shot into the far corner. We looked solid at the back with William C clearing away any counter-attacks and Charles strong in the middle of midfield. The second quarter saw the visitors bring on some of their stronger players and we faced a sterner test. We conceded first but showed some good resilience to pull another goal back - a well struck effort from Fergus on the edge of the area after some great approach play by Charlie. By the third quarter we were beginning to tire though we managed to work another opening for Toby to slot home. Some more precise passing ensued, particularly memorable was an expansive crossfield ball by Charles to Fergus. In the final quarter, we had our backs to the wall and relied on a solid rear-guard action with Williams C and S pulling off some great tackles to deny any attacks. Grantham were slightly profligate in front of goal, but the heroics and acrobatics of Eli in goal kept them at bay until they finally sneaked an equaliser with the very last kick of the game. Well done all players; to play to such a good standard against a much bigger squad for an extended period of time showed great character and teamwork.
