Match Reports

Result: W 2-1

On a slightly smaller pitch than we are used to at St Hugh’s we struggled to find space to bring our quality to bear. Allied to this was the rather claggy surface which hindered attempts at slick passing. We did manage to put together some good moves - often resulting in penetrating runs down the flanks and searching crosses by Aydin or Will. Toby was a menacing presence up front and we looked to be dominating play, though without creating many clear cut chances. Further back Max looked sharp and he put in many telling tackles to break up their attacks. We conceded first after some rather panicky defending led to a one-on-one opportunity for Wellow. A-J this time could not prevent them scoring, though he showed a safe pair of hands for the whole game. In the second half we exerted more pressure and eventually Aydin broke the deadlock after picking the pocket of their centre back. Soon afterwards Will had a speculative effort from range which somehow eluded the keeper’s hands and crept into the net. We ended up winning with a rather unconvincing and often frantic performance. More composure on the ball, better communication and positional discipline is needed to make improvements in our performance.

Result: W 5-0

The B team played on quite an undulating pitch, and at the beginning of the game it was quite congested as too many players from both sides followed the ball rather than found space. As the game progressed, we began to find space and pass the ball more accurately. The first goal was scored by Euan P from a long distance speculative effort from outside the box. Euan then added another from close distance. The second half was of a better standard and we added three more goals. The first two from Charlie and the third from Elias; all three were well taken and close to the top corner. Well played boys!
