Match Reports
A Team
Result: Won 11-3
We started off a little tentatively in this match and it was even-stevens for the first five minutes or so - both sides creating chances in their attacking thirds. We broke the deadlock with a well-crafted goal; William L controlling the ball superbly in the box and swivelling to sweep the ball into the far corner with his left foot after some good work along the left wing by Aydin and Toby. However, this did not settle our nerves as I had expected. Instead Witham piled on the pressure and scored with a remarkable long range effort from inside the centre circle. Fortunately, some good link up play ensued and we started to look dominant going forward. Excellent pass selection created simple tap-ins, and no-nonsense finishing saw us go in at half time leading 5-1. Again, impressive team work and careful tackling meant we continued to keep control in the second half. Charles, Jenson and A-J were rock solid at the back, and Maxwell patrolled the midfield imperiously - timing tackles precisely and claiming a well-deserved goal near the end of the match. I have to mention, too, a quite exceptional free-kick by Witham which was fired perfectly into the top corner from 15-20 yards out.
An outstanding performance today boys, highlighted by spells of impressive passing, dogged tackling and wonderful goals - well done!

B Team
Result: Lost 0-2
Despite the scoreline, this was a very impressive performance by the B team. There was some excellent passing by all the players, particularly Elias, Euan P and Fergus. Witham scored a couple of break away goals early in the game due to their fast striker and our defence being a little too adventurous! We had numerous opportunities to score ourselves but we were prevented by Witham Hall’s excellent goalkeeper who came off his line and closed us down whenever we had a chance. Rupert nearly scored a great free kick in the second half and William C prevented any more break away goals by doing a solid job in defence. A pleasing display and unlucky not to get at least a draw!
C Team
Result: Won 2-0
The C’s put in their best performance of the term so far with a very good collective team effort, passing the ball to their team mates with greater accuracy and working hard to retrieve the ball back when lost. Toby, captain for the day, scored an excellent solo goal within the first couple of minutes and that gave the team a real belief that they could get some success from the game. Toby was also unlucky to get a second shortly after having been brought down in the box but his penalty was saved by the Witham goalkeeper who proved to be difficult to beat all game. Arthur was similarly in good form in our goal with Matthew and Raul providing excellent cover in defence. Ted proceeded to be a terrier in midfield, ably supported by Joshua and William. However, the final word went to Toby who scored his second goal late in the game to make the final score 2-0.
