The girls travelled to Oakham to play a Triangular against Oakham and Stoneygate. The girls had two new faces this week to in Helena and Lucy S to join the team and played two twenty minute matches.
The girls' first match was against Stoneygate, in the first half they played well with both sides evenly matched and the ball going from one end of the pitch to the other. The girls defence held strong and the attack were unlucky to score. After a quick half time talk and a switch of positions, the girls were off to a quick start with a breakaway from Holly and good team work between Holly and Lucy set up Holly to score. The girls defence was once again tested and Daphne had some great saves, unfortunately a goal was scored by Stoneygate. In the last couple of minutes the girls had a couple of chances but a great defence from Stoneygate stopped the girls from scoring. The girls worked really hard and kept improving throughout the match.
The girls' second match was against Oakham, in the first half the girls played extremely hard and had some great moves from Lucy in tricking the defender and flicking the ball out to the side to her team mates. After one of these moves Holly had a chance at goal but narrowly missed, but not for long, a short corner was given and after a few good passes between Helena, Lucy and Holly, Holly scored. After another quick half time talk and drink, the girls change positions and were ready to go. Unfortunately, Oakham scored quickly, but the girls didn’t get discouraged and kept playing hard with some great passes. Oakham then scored another goal meaning it was 2-1 to Oakham. I heard the girls saying “we can get another goal” which was great to see and hear. In the last couple of minutes a great pass from Helena up the pitch which was received by Holly and the passed to Lucy who then scored. The girls ran back quick to start the game again in the hopes of scoring another goal but the clock was against them and the final whistle blew ending the game in a draw.
In both games the girls played extremely hard in some cold conditions, had great team work and sprit, and when the girls went 2-1 down they never gave up and wanted to win which was excellent to watch. Holly was named the player of the match by Oakham team.
