Report:

U11 Hockey Triangular vs Grantham and Copthill

The U11 girls have been working on a lot of skills in preparation for their next match and huge improvements were seen in their first match on Wednesday against Grantham Prep. Jasmine was selected as captain, rising to the role by being a loud and instructional voice on the pitch. Beautiful play was seen from the very start, with one of the forwards intercepting a weak Grantham pass. The girls played the ball around and across the pitch well, with wingers making fantastic runs towards goal. Esme worked the ball around the pitch well, releasing to Jasmine and receiving it back inside the D; after pulling the keeper to the left, the ball was slipped round and pushed firmly into the bottom right hand corner, scoring the first goal of the match. The girls kept up this level of competence into the second half, where St Hugh's received a penalty corner. Capitalising on Grantham’s inexperience, the home team showed great teamwork as they passed the ball in and around the D before finally pushing the ball into the goal.

The second match was against a stronger, more disciplined Copthill. St Hugh's pushed through their tired legs to drive towards the Grantham keeper, only to be thwarted by the strong defensive line. The play was very evenly matched, the ball moving up and down the pitch through superb running and accurate passing. Despite some beautiful stick skills from the St Hugh's defence, the Copthill forwards were just too skilful; creating opportunity after opportunity to eventually score their first goal.
