It was a super performance by the U11A team on Wednesday who faced LMS. This game was played at Horncastle HC as a home fixture and it was great to see the girls using the space effectively on the larger pitches. LMS had some strong individual players but the girls stepped up and played as a team which gave us the edge over the LMS side. The first quarter ended 0-0 so it was all to play for going into the next quarter. We began to use the width of the pitch and it was great to see both Millie and Kitty driving down the wing and putting in some pleasing crosses. Jemima worked hard in the middle making some great interceptions and tackles to regain possession for St Hugh’s. Three goals were scored in this quarter and St Hugh’s went into half-time feeling confident. Our target for the second half was for our defenders to step up in support and to use them to switch play. The girls also set themselves a target to double the score! This quarter saw the girls dominate play and it was super to see them score a further three goals and achieve their target. With a clear lead going into the final quarter, we mixed things up a little and the girls played out of their usual positions. This threw them a little but it was good for them to have to adapt and will stand them in good stead going forwards. FInal score 6-1 St Hugh’s. A great team effort.

B Team

Result: Won 9-0

  • Captain - Charlotte J
  • Player of the match - Michelle

The U11B team continued their run of excellent performances with a confident win against the team from LMS this week. They were communicating well from the outset and it is really good to see each member of the team so assured in their position on the pitch. Ela and Charlotte used the full width of the pitch, keeping their positions out wide, and continued to work very effectively with Olivia up front to attack in formation. It was fantastic to see goals being a real team effort, with every member of the team either setting up a goal or finishing it. India once again proved that, even as the solo defender, she has more than enough might to keep the ball away from the D. A special well done to India too for continuing to play through her injury in the first quarter! Lulu again put in some great saves and remained focused on the game throughout, even if she might not have had as much to do as in some of our previous matches! Michelle excelled in midfield, managing to be everywhere at once, and using that strong hit to get the ball out wide. By the time we had played three quarters, the girls were 5-0 up, and had big ambitions to try and double their score in the final quarter! Incredibly, they almost made it! Well done girls - another fantastic game, and it’s wonderful to see you go from strength to strength each week.
