The U11 girls met two very competitive Oakham teams away this Wednesday. The first match, against Oakham U12 A’s was a display of beautiful stick work and fantastic running from both teams. With Oakham on the attack, lots of pressure was put onto St Hughs keeper Grace, who defended her goal beautifully saving shot after shot. Within the first few minutes Oakham had scored but the St Hugh's girls did not lets their heads go down. They fought back, pushing hard towards their own attacking D. After half time, St Hugh's stepped up their play. The ball was brilliantly picked up by Aurora at the back, who passed to Alice on the wing. The ball was then sent flying to Esme who drove into the D. A quick short ball to Martha at the P spot meant she was in the perfect place to sweep the ball into the goal. A brilliant team effort to secure a well-deserved goal. The final score stood at 6-1 to Oakham.

The second match, against Oakham U12 C’s, saw a determined St Hughs team step onto the pitch. Despite the tired legs, the away team put in all their effort and soon took control of the game. With fantastic runs up and down the wing and beautiful stick work from the girls in the middle, St Hugh's were able to drive into the D with ease. After a scramble in front of the keeper, the ball was worked between Esme and Annabel and was pushed over the line. The home team stepped up their game and pushed up towards their D, working well as a team to gain their first goal. In the second half, some fantastic movement was witnessed as the ball sped from end to end. St Hugh's secured another lovely goal when the ball was injected from the right wing and swept in from the back post. Oakham were quick off the mark after that and managed to slip one final goal into the net, ending the game with a 2-2 draw.
