Match Report

It was an early start for our trip to the IAPS festival at Ratcliffe College so the boys were lucky to be sent on their way with a nice breakfast. We left school early with excitement and enthusiasm for what the day might hold, unfortunately the weather was dreadful. We arrived at Ratcliffe College in good time and the weather cleared up nicely for the start of the festival. We took the field for our first game against Bilton Grange. We were still warming up but managed a 2 try draw thanks to some good running from AJ. Our second game saw us meet Nottingham High. In this game we stepped up and played more like we are able to. The boys scored some excellent team tries - getting across the line this time was Charlie, Charles twice and William C to finish up 4 tries to 1. Just before lunch we faced Fairfield, a very strong rugby school. The boys battled hard with some outstanding defensive efforts, but a well drilled Fairfield managed to cross the line 5 times. After a very quick lunch we came up against Spratton Hall, a very close game with a few decisions not quite going our way, two slipped tackles were the difference for 2 tries scored by Spratton Hall. Final game for us was Brooke Priory. Again, this was a well matched fixture and could have gone either way. Brooke Priory managed to squeeze across the line for 2 tries. Will L managed to pick up a loose ball and run half the length of the field to give us a score. We were looking in a strong position, then an injury to Brooke Priory meant they had to drop to 8 players. Eli volunteered himself to leave the field to match their numbers. Time ticked away and we just could not manage to finish before the whistle. A fantastic day with great team performances from all the boys involved against some strong rugby playing schools. Well done!
