Match Report

The U11 girls played in two mixed ability teams at home for their final fixture of the season, a quadrangular match with teams from Burton Hathow and Orchard School.

Team 2 played against Burton Hathow first, and got off to a strong start, with Megan scoring quite early on in the first half. It became apparent however that the opposition were not going to give up easily and the team had to work hard to avoid interceptions. The girls’ communication was strong and they managed to keep possession well; however many of their attempts to get the ball into the attacking third were hampered by a very tall GK! They finished the game with a 1-0 win.

Playing against the other St Hugh’s team was perhaps the most hard-fought match of the afternoon! It’s great to see the girls so competitive on court and, even when in mixed teams, supporting each other so well. Team 1 won on this occasion (5-4), but a comment from one player summed it up: “We should play each other in these teams more often, miss - that was really close!”

Team 2’s final game was against the Orchard School. This time it was the opposition who got a goal in early, but the girls came back strong, scoring three in the first half - India 2 and Olivia 1. The second half was a quieter affair, with neither team scoring, but the team played a really tidy game and communication and skill remained firmly on show - particularly good to see with so many parents out to support!

A 3-1 win was a lovely way to end a great season. Well done girls!
