U11 Swimming Gala
It was a fabulous performance by the St Hugh’s U11 Swim Squad on Monday afternoon who faced local competition from Burton Hathow, Greenwich House and St George’s Prep. The afternoon opened with a welcome by Joshua F, our school swimming captain, who spoke about the importance of enjoyment and learning from our mistakes. Joshua led the team incredibly well and his performance in the pool was exceptional.
With a large swim squad of twenty pupils, all as keen as mustard, we decided to plan the gala to give everyone an opportunity to swim for the school. Those competing against other schools were selected on merit and everyone else gained valuable race experience against their peers in intra-school races….many of which were incredibly close! This was a great testament to the strength of our swimming at St Hugh’s.
As a school, we dominated throughout the afternoon, winning the vast majority of races. When we did not win, we looked at what we could do to improve our performance and learned from it. There were some outstanding individual performances and it was amazing to see how the pupils rose to the occasion when thrown into a race they were not expecting to compete in!
The relays are often the most exciting and this was clearly the case on Monday. The St Hugh’s team spirit shone and our pupils showed great support for one another. We finished first in every relay and it was great to get some race practice ahead of IAPS next term.
Well done to all swimmers for a fabulous performance
