A Team

OPPOSITION – Burton Hathow A
RESULT - Draw
SCORE – 1-1
SCORERS –M Key

The first game of the season was against a useful Burton Hathow team which included a number of club players.  We started strongly with some excellent teamwork, good push passes and excellent movement off the ball. We took the lead when Matthew K hit an excellent long shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the D. The game remained close, with chances at both ends. Henry L (playing his final game before going to America) made some excellent stops in goal and Morgan and Freddie N interchanged well on the left wing. It looked as if we would hold on for a win but Burton Hathow scored in the last minute to draw the match.

A Team

OPPOSITION –Glebe
RESULT - Win
SCORE – 2-1
SCORERS –Morgan D, William B

We played Glebe following on from our hard match against Burton Hathow. It was clear we had just played, as the movement was not as sharp as the previous game. Despite this we put together some good runs and passes and took the lead when Will scored from close range. Glebe came back with a goal of their own just before half time. We continued to press in the second half and was rewarded with a second goal when Morgan put it into the bottom corner. Despite some Glebe pressure at the end we hung on for our first win of the season.

B Team

OPPOSITION –Burton Hathow b
RESULT - Lost
SCORE – 0-3

This was the first ever hockey match for most of the team. They clearly enjoyed the experience and showed some encouraging signs. The game was a little congested in the middle of the pitch and we need to use the wide players more often and more effectively. Freddie H and Jack B impressed in attack and Joseph S and Sam N made some good clearances  at the back. Tom B made some impressive stops in goal but could not do much about the goals Burton Hathow scored. It was 0-0 at half time but Burton Hathow scored three after the break.
