Girls will watch each other play and go to match tea together following matches.
It was another exciting Wednesday afternoon on the all-weather pitch, with matches against Grantham Prep. Games were played back to back which was a great opportunity for girls to watch one another and for me to see everyone play. The A team played first and with St Hugh's down to 14 players the girls all played a full match. It was super to see how much progress the players have made over the course of the season but also how the girls worked together as a team.
In the A match, St Hugh's looked strong from the start, dominating possession. However, Grantham had some good individual players which our girls initially struggled to deal with. As the game went on we began to deny them space and channel them on to our stronger side. We put pressure on the ball and made some great tackles. We also anticipated play well by intercepting a number of their passes. Jasmine and Helena worked solidly together at the back and created a number of turnovers. St Hugh's were quick on the counter-attack and we used our wingers who showed good pace. We became hungry for goals and had a number of shot on target throughout the game. This week our goals came from Annabel S (2) who is proving to be very composed in front of goal, Penny (1) and Phoebe (1). The team moved around positionally and I was very pleased with how they adapted to this. Final result 4-0 win.
The girls in the B match were ready to go after watching the A girls win their match. During the first half the girls played well but unfortunately let 2 goals in. The girls worked together but didn’t quite get into space to make the passes into the D. After, a strong half time talk and a few position changes, the girls started strongly and put pressure on their defence and unfortunately didn’t quite get over the goal line. Tailia had some great tackles and big hits out to the wings which Emily chased down with Annabel and Freya supporting in the middle. All the girls had a better second half and unfortunately let one goal in. It was lovely to see the girls adapting to new positions and the cold weather. Final result 3-0. Also a thank you to Mr Goodhand for the support and coaching.
