U11A Cricket v Ranby (H)
Please see downloads for TEAM SHEET.
A polite reminder that all players must have their own school badged cricket trousers in school on match days. These should be taken home to wash unless your child is boarding the night of the fixture (in which case they should be taken to laundry). Any issues with the above please email Mrs Felton before Wednesday. Players have been informed they will not be allowed to represent the school with dirty cricket whites. Match tops will be provided. If these go home after an away fixture, please return to launrdy the following morning (they may need to be washed at home to avoid staining).
Though it is not complulsory to have their own cricket bag and equipment, we do recommend that all players purchase their own personal cricket box/abdo guard with shorts. Skin shorts or leggings could be used as an alternative. If you have any queries about this, please email Mr Pickering who can advise further.
Match Report
We got our cricket season underway with a tough first fixture versus Ranby. We bowled first and the wicket, being a little damp after the recent wet weather, was difficult to bowl on. Their openers proved to be experienced batters and put together a strong partnership - perhaps a little more pressure could have been put on them to prevent singles being scored quite so readily. After their No.2 retired on 30 runs, we started to whittle their batting order down effectively. Eli took three wickets as Will L, Will C and Euan all held on to catches confidently. Euan also trapped one of them LBW as we got to the interval with Ranby at 121 for 4 after 20 overs.
Ranby proved to have a very strong bowling attack - fast and accurate - with a few county players in their ranks. Many of our batters were bowled during the opening blitz; Will L survived and put up a good stand against the rest of the bowlers, reaching a hard-earned 25 not out. St Hugh’s showed admirable spirit throughout and reached 77 all out.
All players got a chance to bat; most bowled at least two overs and Euan captained with careful consideration. There won’t be many tougher games than this!
