U11A Cricket v The Read School (A) 1.45pm
We have managed to secure a fixture against Read School following some cancellations this week. Though this is further than we would nornally travel, we are keen to commit to this given the poor weather conditions recently. We will only take eleven players to this fixture. All other Y5/6 pupils will be playing softball against the U13 cohort.
Please see downloads for TEAM SHEET. Please ensure your child has their white cricket trousers for this fixture.
Match Report
Result: 89 - 6, 90 - 4 (L)
St Hughs travelled to The Read School, North Yorkshire for the U11 Hardball game. This was a revised fixture due to losing an opposition and was the first time travelling to the school. Going into Yorkshire to play cricket we knew would be an interesting challenge, but the U11 boys approached the game positively and enthusiastically under the guidance of Euan as captain. We lost the toss and went into bat first opening with Rory and Eli. The Read School had some incredibly strong bowlers who dismissed 5 of our batsmen through being bowled out. Fergus was unfortunately run out by Rory, which was a shame as he was warming up nicely. Rory couldn’t be dismissed and scored an impressive 46, with the support of India in the final overs we scored 89. The Read School came in to bat and through some good bowling and fielding James took 2 early wickets and Rory 1. The Read School opener was on 26 and batting well, then Euan came in to bowl and took his wicket first ball. The game really opened up and could have gone either way. Approaching the last over The Read School ran up the singles really well to achieve 90 with 6 balls remaining. An exciting and impressive performance from both schools. Great afternoon of sport.
