U11A Team Match Report
Result: W 2-0 (Brooke Priory), L1-0 (Stoneygate)
The U11A girls had a very successful trip away on Wednesday playing two games and coming out winners of both. The girls played Brooke Priory in their first match which was a competitive and tight affair throughout the match with end to end hockey and chances for both teams. Angelina was first on the score sheet for the day after multiple shots from the team which the goalkeeper managed to match - Angelinas proved one too many as she found the bottom corner. The second half then began and St Hugh's began to control the play with lovely passing moves being put together however, the final touch just being missed keeping the scoreline at 1-0. In the last play of the game, the hard work the team has put in was finally rewarded with Florence getting the second goal and finishing the game 2-0.
St Hugh's then faced Stoneygate in a game which was played at a competitive level from both sides. St Hugh's had learnt from their last game and began to become more clinical with their chances. Two goals each for Angelina and Amelia put St Hugh's 4-0 up at half time. St Hugh's came out in the second with the intention to maintain their nice passing hockey and add to their tally. This is exactly what they did with Angelina putting away another two making it four for this game and Amelia completing her hattrick. This meant St Hugh's finished the game as 7-0 winners. Well done to all the girls on another great performance this season.
Result: D 0-0 (Brooke Priory), L 1-0 (Stoneygate)
The U11B girls had two very exciting and evenly-matched games against Brooke Priory and Stoneygate on Wednesday. In the first match against Brooke, there was some great passing between the girls, and their quick-thinking and accuracy on the pitch is really improving. The ball made it into the D on several occasions, but we never quite got the shot in. However, there were some superb attempts from our attackers. Poppy H was commended by the Brooke Priory umpire for her strength in defence and clearing the ball from the D; there were also some excellent saves by Lucia H in goal. A closely-fought game to the end, the result tied up at 0-0.
In the 2nd game against Stoneygate, it was evident that the girls were really thinking about their teamwork. They really improved their communication and there was some fantastic play between Poppy H and Megan D, getting the ball out wide to the wing and driving forward. Olivia N’s quick-thinking and even quicker feet also kept the ball in play on more than one occasion! After another tense game, Stoneygate just managed to score in the final 30 seconds of play - but it was really pleasing to see how much the girls’ awareness of space and position have improved over the season so far.
