We welcomed Grantham Prep and Stamford to St Hugh's this week for a triangular fixture. We faced a young Stamford side first and struck by illness and injury were down to six players so Stamford kindly offered to rotate one of their players as our WD.
St Hugh's dominated this game and although we didn't play as well as I expected it was a convincing win for the girls. There was some super shooting by Beth, both close range and from nearer the circle edge.
Having watched the Grantham v Stamford match the girls quickly observed that that Grantham side had height and athleticism on court. We knew it was going to be a tough match so considered our positions carefully.
As we expected, Grantham were agile and transitioned the ball up court extremely well. With a strong GA and GS it didn't take them long to capitalise and we went into half time 6-1 down. Following a productive team talk, we collectively identified what we needed to do and how we were going to close the gap.
St Hugh's came back fighting and it was an incredible turn around from the team. There was some fantastic movement on court and we created some superb attacking opportunities. It was a fast paced game but we managed to intercept the ball well and worked hard for one another. I was so proud of the team for an outstanding come back and it was great to see every member of the team making a valuable contribution.
Well done girls!
