Match Reports:

On a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon it was great to see so many girls excited to play hockey against a strong Wellow side.

B Team

Result: Won 6-1

The B team started the game strongly applying lots of pressure to wellow and keeping the ball well. This patience was then rewarded when Alisa found herself one on one with the Wellow Goal Keeper and slotted the ball home to give St Hugh's the lead. The first half of the B's game continued in this fashion with lots of positive attacking play which was also being matched with great defensive play from Megan D and Annabelle J. The B team ended the first half with a comfortable lead. This continued into the second half with more good attacking play with Isadora, Kitty, Peyton and Alisa all putting together nice passing to open up the Wellow defence and score more goals to increase their lead. The defence was very strong again through the duration of the second half with good saves from Michelle and strong tackling from the whole team. Unfortunately for the team they conceded a late goal to take away their clean sheet, however they still came away 6-1 winners after playing some very good hockey. The goal scorers were Ailsa x3, Peyton 1, Isadora and Kitty.

C Team

Result: Lost 6-1

The C team came out looking to play nice passing hockey and replicate what the B team had been able to do. Unfortunately, Wellow scored an early goal which put St Hugh's on the back foot from the start of the game. Despite the early goals, St Hugh's remained in high spirits and tried to pass the ball around nicely. After periods of nice passing, Wellow found themselves in the lead by a few goals coming into the second half despite the efforts of Amelie in goal and the strong defensive work from the whole team. The second half brought about the same story, with Wellow adding a few more goals to their tally. However, the attacking play from St Hugh's got better with Lucia, Ela, Grace and Olivia pushing the team forward in search of a goal to raise the spirits of the team. St Hugh's were able to find this goal through a quick restart from Megan B at the back which caught Wellow out allowing St Hugh's to counter attack and convert calmly into the bottom corner by Kitty to take away a strong Wellow defence's clean sheet. The game ended with Wellow unfortunately being 6-1 winners despite very hard work from the girls. Overall, a great afternoon of hockey showing lots of hard work despite the horrible weather conditions the girls faced.
