U11B

A very close contest today produced a match which, though short on goalmouth action, made for an entertaining game. St. Hugh’s were strong in our passing and moving and we kept possession neatly in little triangles around the pitch. Again, Joseph and Sam were resolute in defence and allowed their forwards hardly a chance to run in on goal. Some fine mini-battles with opposite numbers popped up in all areas and a great deal about the spirit and resolve of the team was learned. Well battled, boys!

U11C

Following on from Witham’s game against our B team they lined up against our Cs. In stark contrast to that match there were two quick goals scored in the first 5 minutes. We were caught cold by the first, swift Witham attack, only to reply minutes later after some fabulous persistent driving forward into the D, through several tackles, by Harry H. He confidently slotted home from 5 yards out. We grew into the game more and more in the first half and our industry was rewarded by another goal swept in by Harrison just before the half-time whistle. Cole and Ralph were steady at the back with Cole in particular timing his tackles superbly. Daniel pulled off several fine saves in goal and Dan G, a late call up to the team in midfield, played with great assurance. Timothy, the other midfielder, held the centre of the team together with some well-judged tackles and neat distribution. The second half saw a resurgent Witham gain the initiative and some rather lax defending in the end allowed their forwards some space and time in the D to score a couple of goals. Some more mazy dribbles by Harry H could not quite break through the opposition defence unfortunately. A fantastic team effort though boys, an entertaining afternoon’s sport – well done!
