The U11 A’s travelled to Oakham on Wednesday with an amended squad to include the four U12 girls. The alterations to the formation meant the girls took a bit of time to settle in resulting in the first quarter ending 0-0. The second quarter saw much better communication with the ball moving more fluidly between St Hugh’s players. Aurora and Lucy worked tirelessly at the back, preventing Oakham from entering their attacking D. After many attacking chances, the away team finally managed to get a clean shot on goal ending the second quarter 0-1.
The third quarter saw the pace pick up further, with the home team pressing harder and scoring a nifty little goal. St Hugh’s returned with ferocity, sending the ball from the right to left wing, rolling round the back until finally an opportunity opened; Annabel T drove hard into the D, crossed the ball in front of the keeper to Annabel S on the far left post who swept the ball firmly into the goal! A great team goal to end the third quarter 1-2. The fourth quarter saw the St Hugh’s girls settle further into their new roles, moving the ball up the pitch to secure three more goals and ending the game 5-1.
With the U11 B game incomplete, the U11 A’s played a further 8 minutes enabling them to score a trio of beautiful goals! Oakham fought back with a minute to go, sending the ball into the D hard and deflecting it past Ruby to make the final score 8-2. A huge congratulations to all those that played on Wednesday; the team spirit and camaraderie shown by the girls was truly fantastic!
