Wednesday 24th the St. Hugh’s U13 boys’ hockey team travelled to Worksop College where they were humbled a year previously.  Things did not start well, as on Saturday at Witham, as we conceded a weak early goal within the 1st minute.  However the boys responded immediately as Henry H was fed the ball by Nathan and he shot hard between the goal keeper’s legs on 3 minutes.  Two minutes later Worksop’s star player started to show his class as he scored one of his seven goals of the game.  One goal was a sublime reverse stick strike to the top corner but a lot of the others were equally classy as he drew Albert A off the line and slotted the ball past him inside the post.  The half time score was 4-1 to Worksop.  Jake D and Horatio E had been kept busy in defence and William H was working hard attacking forward whilst defending against his man too.

In the second half the boys conceded early again; however they then put together their best spell of the game as they pushed forward and started involving Jack C on the wing to then create space in the middle for Henry and Nathan to attack through.  Nathan scored St. Hugh’s second on 10 minutes making the score 5-2.  However, as the boys were chasing the game and tiredness set in Worksop scored a further 4 unanswered goals in the last 10 minutes making the final score 9-2.  Captain Albert made some fine saves in the second half that kept the score line to single figures.
