Match Report:
Result: Carre's 98 all out, St Hugh's 85 all out
This was the first U13 game of the season against Carre’s in the County Cup. We won the toss and asked Carre’s to bat first. Carre’s had a very aggressive mindset, trying to score off almost every ball. They scored quickly, but also lost wickets frequently. Huxley, despite being an U11, was the star bowler, picking up 5 wickets and also running out one of their batsmen. Matthew K was the star fielder, taking three catches, one of which was a one handed grab just centimetres from the ground. Freddie H took 2 wickets and Penny got a catch and a wicket with her first and only ball! Carre’s were all out for 98 after only 12 overs!
We discovered that Carre’s had a number of very fast bowlers including ones that played for Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Despite this, we got off to a very good start with Matthew scoring 31 in the first 4 overs. Once he was out the scoring rate slowed down and we lost wickets fairly often. Freddie N stayed in and slowly increased his scoring rate. We needed 20 runs off the last 3 overs but were running out of batsmen. When Freddie was last out in the 19th overs we were only 13 runs short. A great effort against a very good opposition.
