Match Report
Results:
A Team: 7-0 Win
B Team: 4-1 Loss
It was great to be able to welcome Lincoln Minster on Thursday afternoon for some competitive hockey. LMS no longer play on a Wednesday at U13 level which is unfortunate so we were pleased to invite them during our Y7/8 PE slot. Smaller sided half pitch games gave all players the opportunity to play and the girls adapted well to this. With 4v2 power plays instead of short corners both teams quickly adapted to a different set play.
St Hugh’s very much dominated possession in the A match, putting the LMS side under a lot of pressure in their defensive half. It was great to see the girls capitalise on some well crafted phases of attacking play! Next week they will face LMS again in a 7 a side full pitch fixture. The B team improved over the course of the match and began to work better as a team to transition the ball up pitch. Lucia put in some pleasing saves in the first half though found herself caught out of position on some occasions. Defensively, the girls put in some effective tackles and it was great to see them using the width of the pitch when distributing the ball. With a bit of encouragement at half-time to be confident on the ball in attack, a goal came eventually from Poppy W who made a great drive down the right wing. Despite a 4-1 loss, the team were pleased with their performance, particularly in the second half.
Well done to all players.
