Match Reports

U13A Hardball

Result: Lost by 6 Wickets

On a day that always threatened rain we travelled to Stamford, lost the toss and were asked to bat. Spike and Huxley opened the batting and scored a fairly quick 15 before we started losing wickets. We certainly need to select our shots more carefully and play straight to straight bowling! Elliott played very well, defending the good balls and scoring off the less good ones. After losing 5 quick wickets Dan steadied the ship a little before getting run out. Wilf also battled hard and was still there with Elliott at the end. We finished on 92 for 9 with Elliot 42 not out.

We started bowling quite tightly and I was impressed with our standard of fielding. Spike took a good catch off Huxley’s bowling for the first wicket and then Elliot bowled their number 3. Rico bowled well and took a wicket and Leo got an impressive run out. In the end Stamford reached 93-4 with 4 overs to go. It started to pour down 2 minutes after the match finished!

U13A Softball

Result: Stamford Softball As Lost, St Hughs 102-3 Stamford 171-1

The U13 Softball A team travelled to Stamford  on Wednesday 10th May.

We started by bowling in order to know what total we were to chase.

Poppy H and Florence opened the bowling and they restricted the Stamford pair to 41 runs.

Sam and Joseph were next to bowl - Sam took a wicket, bowled, in his first over. Joseph was more expensive but didn’t bowl many wides. They went for 45 for 1.

William and Raul were next up, too many wides cost the team and they went for 45 for none.

Brandon and Poppy W were last to bowl and Stamford scored 46 for none. Poppy had our best over conceding only 4 runs.

It was St Hugh’s turn to bat and Poppy H and Florence opened. Their bowlers were all quite fast and straight but the girls did well scoring 36 runs from their four overs. Poppy scored two 6s and two 4s.

Sam and Joseph were next in, Joseph scored two 4s and Sam one. However, Joseph was bowled on his last ball. They scored 31 for 1.

Raul and William were next in. William was caught and bowled from his first ball and was bowled in the second over. Raul hit a super 4, however too many dot balls meant they scored 10 for 2.

Our last pair were Brandon and Poppy W. Brandown hit three 4s and Poppy ran some quick singles. They scored 25 for no loss.

St Hugh’s final score was 102 for 3 against Stamford’s 171 for 1. More bowling practice is needed to restrict the amount of wides.

U13B Softball

Result: Loss

St Hugh's opted to field first, the team as a whole bowled well not giving away too many wides and no balls - with Ted and Charlotte both finding the wicket.

Stamford players had big hits and found the boundary on many occasions. The team did adjust their fielding going deep into the boundary, managing to stop many balls going over and quick fielding and backing up to keep them down to just one run at times. Also managing to stump  two players out with some quick fielding.

St Hugh's into bat and as a team they managed to hit a number of balls, unfortunately a few caught out balls took our score down, also accuracy of their bowling lost the team a few wickets.

Communication was great to hear from all the players which kept the runs ticking over. A great last four overs from Ted and Peyton both finding the boundary and hitting well.

Lots of learnings from the match and positives to transfer into future games. Well done all - a great team effort!
