Match Report
Result: L 209-3 v 70-5
Wednesday the 24th of May saw Witham Hall Girls’ Cricket team visit St Hugh’s for a fixture. It was a unique occasion as it was our first girls fixture and we played up with an incrediball rather than a softball and they played down from a hard ball and played on an astro for the first time.
We batted first with Poppy H and Florence. The Witham bowlers were fast and straight. In the first two overs there were a lot of dot balls. In the third over Poppy was run out and Florence bowled. Across the four overs Poppy scored two fours and the pair scored 13 runs for two wickets.
Next in were Poppy W and Sophie. The first over was a maiden then Poppy scored a 4. In the third over Poppy was run out. Overall the pair scored 2 runs for 1 wicket.
Our third pair were Peyia and India (who was playing up from Year 5). In the first over India was caught by the bowler but this brought Peyia to the wicket! In the second over she threw off the shackles and hit one 6 and two 4s. Across their 4 overs they scored 30 for 1 wicket with Peyia getting one 6 and four 4s.
Amelia and Charlotte were our last pair. Amelia carried on where her sister left off with a mighty 6 from her first ball followed by two 4s later in the over. Frustratingly in the second over Charlotte was caught and Amelia bowled. The pair finished with 25 runs for 2 wickets with Millie scoring one 6 and four 4s.
We finished with 70 for 6.
Witham Hall came in to bat and despite accurate bowling, pleasingly with a lack of wides, Witham plundered 75 runs in their 4 overs as their club crickets hit out.
The second pair were similarly strong and despite more good bowling and a lack of wides they too scored 75 runs.
Peyia and India then came in to bowl. Now we were through their stronger players it was more of a contest. Despite conceding a 6 in her first over, Peyia stuck back with a wicket superbly caught by Poppy W. India only conceded singles in her first over. This brought Peyia back on and despite conceding another 6 she gained a second wicket as Sophie caught a batter out. India again was frugal only conceding singles. As a pair they got two wickets for only 19 runs.
Our final bowling pair was Amelia and Charlotte. Amelia got a wicket with her first ball she bowled. After this a few 4s were conceded by a strong batter and we allowed 40 runs for the one wicket
They finished on 209 for 3. Our batter of the game was Amelia and bowler Sophie as voted for by the opposition.
