The first ten minute third of rugby saw us very well matched with Minster. Tries were scored evenly throughout, and I was very impressed by how we shut down the space available to our opponents. In the second lot of ten minutes we dominated possession - tagging very well and achieving turnovers of possession (through the accumulation of 7 tags). We ran well with the ball - Beau was a powerful runner, George P was light on his feet and elusive, and Edward R showed great balance and change of direction. All three scored good tries. Our passing and support play was pleasing too - with Elijah linking play well and George C pitching in with some jinking runs. We finished that period ahead. The final third saw Minster come back at us and finally level the scores. A very competitive and enjoyable fixture - well battled boys!
Result: 8 - 3 (40 - 15) W
Monday afternoon the stage was set for a local derby with Lincoln Minster School. Callan N and Seb F welcomed the visiting Minster to our hallowed turf. The boys again this week were playing touch on the request of the visitors, but they did not let that deter them from the job at hand. Captained by Rory P in the first half St Hugh’s came out of the blocks really strong with some good evasive running and attacking of space. Edward J crossed the line for St Hugh’s on a number of occasions. Lincoln Minster responded well with a couple of tries through some good play to avoid the St Hugh’s defence. The second half Callan N stepped up to captain the side. St Hugh’s boys turned up the heat and Edward J, Seb F and Rory P all got over the try line. St Hugh’s gave Lincoln Minster a warm congratulations and farewell with 3 cheers and a tunnel off the field of play. A solid performance by a U9 team that seems to progress week on week. Well done boys!
