U8 Team

Result: W 11-0

One proud PE teacher! The result aside, the U8 boys played exceptionally well working together as a team for which they too should be so proud of their performance. St Hugh’s took a convincing lead against Grantham in the first quarter. The boys listened well to individual and team challenges that they were given and all worked hard on their skill development. This showed great maturity at such a young age and was a real testament to their character. We played 10 minute quarters which allowed us to rotate things around, positions, roles, responsibilities etc. Grantham came back at St Hugh’s in the 2nd and 3rd quarters coming very close to scoring, but some solid defending and fantastic goalkeeping meant the boys managed to keep a clean sheet. A brilliant team performance demonstrating that the boys are not just developing as players but really pulling together as a team. Exciting times ahead for this young team. Well done boys.

U9 Team

Result: L3-5

This was a really exciting game! We started strongly and went into a 1-0 lead early on. We dominated possession, using the space well on the larger pitch. We allowed them back into the game with a penalty, but almost immediately took the lead again after some good passing between Josh and Seb, followed by a super through ball by Rory to Edmund who ran into the area and finished neatly into the far corner. Again, Grantham came back and equalised and then took the lead through a good piece of individual skill by their winger who cut in neatly from the left and placed her shot firmly past our keeper. Our heads didn’t go down though and we again put together some neat passes with Rory confidently finishing. At the end, Grantham broke away and nabbed another two goals to which we had little time to respond. Overall, I was impressed by some of our interplay and movement into space. A little more luck in front of goal would have seen a more even scoreline.
