The U9C and D girls played against Wellow’s U9 team in their final match before half term, with the two teams of 6 playing half a game each. The first St Hugh’s team (Leopards) got off to a good start and there were certainly some strong tackles in the D, but Wellow managed to get two goals past our defence in the first quarter. The second St Hugh’s team (Jaguars) stepped up for the 2nd quarter and put in some good passes, with Millie hitting out strongly and accurately from the back. Whilst they didn’t managed to score, they didn’t concede a goal either so the score remained 2-0 overall at half time. It was the Leopards turn again for the 3rd quarter and the team came back stronger, communicating much better and really fighting for the ball. With the score still 2-0 after three quarters, the Jaguars really had it all to play for. Despite real determination and some excellent passing out to the wing by Amelie, Wellow managed to score 3 times in this final quarter, leaving the overall score at 5-0. However, the score really does not reflect how close and exciting a game this was – the girls fought exceptionally hard throughout and there was some really improved gameplay. Well done girls!
