Match Reports

A Team

Result: Won 5-3

On a lovely afternoon on the astro the U9 boys took on their first hockey match of the term. The A team faced a strong Ranby team which resulted in a very competitive and exciting match. The game started in the favour of Ranby who were creating good chances, however through a strong team defensive effort they were able to keep Ranby from taking the lead. St Hugh’s then had an attacking period of their own which resulted in a flurry of goals from Sam H who quickly scored a hat-trick within a matter of minutes to make the score 3-0. St Hugh’s continued with this great attacking play which resulted in Sam H scoring another two goals making the score 5-0 at half time with Sam H scoring all five. Ranby then started the second half in the same way as their first with strong periods of attacking play. The second half was a much more balanced affair with both teams creating good chances but also defending well to keep the score at 5-0. St Hugh’s were then caught towards the end of the game with a flurry of 3 quick goals from Ranby which was deserving of their hard work throughout the match making it a very competitive fixture for the boys. Well done to all the boys involved in a great result.

B Team

Result: Lost 1-4

Our first hockey match saw us pitted against a Ranby B team with several strong players in it. It was a very closely fought game, particularly in the first half. Josh seemed to be involved in most of the action in midfield and was robust in his challenges. Seb held the back line superbly and timed his interceptions to perfection. However, we could not seem to get the ball up front to threaten their goal. The second half followed a similar pattern with lots of bunching around the ball with everybody willing to get stuck in. The stand-out moment, though, was Noah’s scintillating dribble past several defenders and calm finish for our first goal of the season.
