Today we played two varieties of rugby in two different games which had the potential to be highly confusing but the boys all coped very well and adapted their game to both versions of rugby. Against Wellow we played full contact against a couple of very good contact players but everyone got stuck in and brought down the dangerous players. An excellent display of contact skills and lines of running from all the boys but a special mention has to go to F Howe for his straight line running and to H Elton for his powerful running lines straight up the middle of the pitch carrying 2 or 3 with him with every carry. Then we played Burton Hathow in a touch game, more aimed at development than anything else and it turned out to be a fun experience for all of the boys.
We entertained both Wellow House and Burton Hathow on Wednesday 15th November. Burton played Wellow first and won easily, we then played Wellow. We started very well with Joseph S scoring the first try in the first minute. This was followed by frequent tries during the game as we played well as a team, tackling well and running strongly. The final score was 9-0 to St Hugh’s with nine different boys scoring the tries!
The match against Burton Hathow was much tougher. The opposition had a number of boys who play for Lincoln Rugby Club and they passed the ball very well. We took the lead with a well worked try, but Burton Hathow replied. We tackled very well, Freddie, Eddie and Morgan being particularly impressive. Freddie R scored an excellent individual try, but again Burton responded. The final score was 3-3, which was a fair result as neither team deserved to lose.
