U9 Report
The U9's faced Ranby again this week in a triangular fixture at Wellow House. Lucy S captained the side this week and did a fantastic job, particularly being vocal on court. Our first match was against the home side and with St Hugh's winning the toss we chose to take first centre pass. The first half saw both teams creating attacking opportunities and St Hugh's did particularly well in our defensive half to regain possession. Despite having some scoring opportunities we didn't manage to convert these and the half ended as a scoreless draw. The girls went into the second half determined to take the lead and there was some good court linkage which lead to a goal by Verity. St Hugh's managed to cling on to the win, and the game ended as a 1-0 victory to St Hugh's.
The next game against Ranby was much tougher and having lost 2-0 to this side last week we knew to expect a hard fought match. Ranby had a couple of key players and St Hugh's had to work extremely hard to keep up with the pace of the game. We managed to slow the Ranby side down and deny them both space and time in our defensive goal third and there were some good interceptions with St Hugh's reacting quickly to the turn over. However St Hugh's began to tire a little and Ranby passed the ball quickly up court whih led to success in the goal circle. Final result was a 0-3 defeat but the girls learned a lot from this game and we look forward to focusing on areas in need of development before our next match.
Well done to all players and thank you to those parents who travelled to support.
