 U11 vs Ranby A, Ranby B, Westbourne, Barlborough A, Barlborough B

RESULT – Ranby A (1-0W), Ranby B (2-0W), Westbourne (0-0), Barlborough A (0-0), Barlborough B (1-0)

The U11A team started the season positively with some pleasing performances against a host of prep schools at the Ranby Festival.  The squad, captained by Annabel S, worked hard in the lead up to the fixture, earning their place on the team.   Although the Year 5 & 6 girls have not played together much yet, they gelled well as a team and there was some good supportive play.  St Hugh’s certainly held their own in this festival, winning three out of five games and drawing the other two 0-0.  Jasmine and Helena were solid in defence and gave the team confidence on the counter-attack.  It is not always easy in short 10 minute games to score but we did create opportunities and capitalised on these.  This week, goals came from Beth C (3) and Ruby (S) with a number of players working together to set these up.  Our final match saw Beth C win possession from our defending half and score just before the final whistle! Overall, a great team effort.  A super start to the season, well done to all players.  We look forward to facing Wisbech away next week.

U9

SCORE – 5-2

SCORERS – Amelia F and Sophie T

The U9 girls took to the pitch in their first match against Ranby House on Wednesday. The home team won the toss, beginning the game with the first centre pass. St Hugh’s were straight on the opposition, hassling the forwards and forcing them to make errors. Some fantastic communication from the away team meant the ball was passed out to the wings easily. The away team caught St Hugh’s on the break, sending one player up into the D with the ball, dodging past Lucy in defense and scoring the first goal of the game. St Hugh’s returned to play determined, moving the ball with ease across the pitch, keeping possession. A well timed slip to Sophie on the wing allowed her to drive fast towards goal where she took advantage of the lack of defenders, sending the ball hard into the goal. In the second third, the home team pressed the St Hugh’s defence putting them under lots of pressure. The final third saw St Hugh’s attacking the space with increased ferocity and after a lot of hard work and determination, Amelia sent the ball flying into the goal gaining the second goal for St Hugh’s.

A fantastic game with a score line that fails to depict the fire and spirit shown by the St Hugh’s girls.
