The U9 A’s travelled to Witham on Wednesday to take part in a tournament involving a variety of schools. Their first match against Grantham saw some fantastic passing and communication between the St Hugh's girls. Scoring early with a great shot from Ruby, they fought relentlessly to keep up their pace, making brilliant runs up and down the court. Grantham equalised in the final two minutes, a solid 1-1 draw. In their second match, St Hugh's met Witham A’s who encouraged the girls to step up their game. Some brilliant interceptions from Penny helped the away team to gain possession and saw some fantastic attacking opportunities. The next game was against Copthill A’s who fought to the very last minute in an evenly matched game. Some great defending from Helena and Tallia meant that the opposition scored just one goal despite their quick passing. Against Witham B’s, the St Hugh's girls displayed some excellent movement up and down the court, with some fantastic dodges made by Phoebe and Annabel in the middle of the court. A fantastic shot from Ruby saw the ball fly smoothly into the net. Against their next opponent, Peterborough, the girls worked extremely hard to keep possession and feed the ball into the goal circle. Some brilliant passing from Freya at centre saw the ball move swiftly towards goal. After a much needed 12 minutes of respite inside, the St Hugh's girls stepped back on to court in their final match against Copthill B’s. Energised and determined, the girls displayed some fantastic netball, with improved communication and accurate passing. The ball was fed in and out of the St Hugh's goal circle with ease and allowed for many scoring opportunities for Ruby and Beth. Some fabulous teamwork between the GS and GA saw Beth score 2 and Ruby 1 goal, winning the match for St Hugh's. Final results stood with St Hugh's securing 2 draws, 2 losses and 2 wins, a valiant effort.

St Hugh's succeeded in being placed 3rd in the tournament, a fantastic and well deserved achievement for the U9 A’s.
