Report:

On Wednesday afternoon we played our second match of the week against Grantham Prep. The girls were excited about playing an away match and very much enjoyed being hosted by a new school. Both teams played well and grew in confidence throughout their match.

In the B game, St Hugh's dominated play from the start displaying some lovely court linkage from the initial centre pass by Elizabeth. Our centre court players, Elizabeth and Poppy, worked hard to feed the ball to our shooters, Ailsa and Zoie. With it being 6-a-side, having no goal keeper allowed the girls to shoot under a little less pressure. They supported one another well when shooting and it was great to see some success. Although it was quieter for our defensive players, Isadora and Mahreen. Both girls made good interceptions and worked hard to regain possession.

The A team match was a much closer affair with both teams creating attacking opportunities. In the first quarter the girls took a little while to settle and Grantham passed the ball quickly and effectively, which led to us conceding the first goal of the match. However, it didn't take long to find our feet and we won the second quarter 2-0 with both Verity and Sophie scoring a goal each. In the centre court Olivia put in a sterling effort, creating space and intercepting a number of balls. Peyton also tried hard to lose her defender and grew in confidence as the game went on. Grantham came back strong in the second half with some fresh legs on court. Lucy and Florence worked well together under pressure and their back line free passes really improved in this half. This lead to a number of turnovers.

A super effort by all and a fantastic start to the season!
