Victorian Toys & Games

Year 1 have visited the Museum of Lincolnshire Life to look at Victorian toys and games. They compared old toys to the toys they play with today and saw some Victorian rooms and discussed how houses had changed inside and why. They loved seeing a child’s bedroom with all the old toys and couldn’t believe that poor children would have only had one toy a year!

After walking through the various rooms they had a go at some old outdoor games including hopscotch, skipping and marbles. Then they explored a range of old toys and play with them as if they were children in the Victorian times.

Many of the toys were made from wood and not plastic like toys today. They also didn’t have battery powered toys or toys that could light up. The toys they had were very plain and some were very delicate.
