World Book Day

World Book Day is this Thursday 1st March and there are lots of events in school during March to celebrate.

The Book Fair will be here all week so parents are asked to let the School Office know how much you would like your child to spend. It is always fantastic to see them with their new books.

On Thursday pupils will be dressing up as their favourite literary characters and prizes will be awarded for:
Best Junior costumes: Nursery - Year 2
Best Intermediate costumes: Years 3-5
Best Senior costumes: Years 6-8

A good website to get ideas for costumes and how-to videos is www.bookaid.org/worldbookday

The librarians have been working exceptionally hard over the last few months re-organising and categorising our library collection. By World Book Day, everything will be in place and all classes will be invited into the library at some point over the day for a Library Induction and a chance to engage with the school library through quizzes and games.

This year’s World Book Day theme is Share A Story and to celebrate the work completed in the library, we will be creating a display of St Hugh’s children’s favourite books to share with others. Pupils are submitting their choices of books that they would like to share with others.

Finally pupils are also taking a picture of their bookshelf at home which will be featured in a library display. We are hoping that this display will open up discussion about reading habits at home and how children can build up their own libraries of favourite books to enjoy.
