World Book Day - Lockdown Style

This year’s World Book Day, like so much else, presented some challenges - but that didn’t stop the children and staff at St Hugh’s from making the most of the day!

Remote learning could not stop everybody from dressing up as their favourite book characters, and the pupils then made their own special videos explaining who they were dressed as. Some children even recommended their favourite books to their friends and explained what they love about reading.

Pupils in all year groups enjoyed a special World Book Day assembly, followed by themed English lessons in which the children were set creative challenges by some real-life authors. The staff at St Hugh’s also recorded themselves reading some of their favourite stories, and shared these with the pupils to encourage a love of reading aloud and the benefits of sharing stories that we love with others.

It was wonderful to see how involved everybody was in making the day a success and lovely to see our children, once again, rise above the challenge of lockdown to engage so brilliantly in their remote learning and to share their enthusiasm with one another. What a fantastic team effort!
