ECB Girls’ Cricket

We were delighted to host the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Indoor Cricket County Competition - welcoming Sir John Nelthorpe and Spalding Academy schools. It proved a fantastic afternoon of cricket and certainly was a close contest - with us finally winning by just one run. Our U13 Girls' Cricket Team is thrilled to be through to the County Final!

Thank you to Mr Pickering for the following match report:

Result: Through to the County Final!

The girls played in the semi-finals of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Indoor Cricket Competition. We hosted both Sir John Nelthorpe and Spalding Academy schools with the winner going through to the county Final.

We played Sir John Nelthorpe first. Sophie lost the toss and was asked to bat first. We made a good start, helped by quite a lot of wides from the opposition bowlers. We ran well between the wickets, with Amelia and Poppy retiring on 15 and Jemima, Florence and Charlotte all hitting the ball well. We finished in 116 after our eight overs. We bowled well and fielded superbly to get five run outs. Sir John Nelthorpe finished on 54 and a big win for St Hugh's.

Spalding Academy then just beat Sir John Nelthorpe off the last ball to set up a decider.

We again lost the toss and managed to score 84 off our eight overs. Spalding had two quite quick bowlers and it was not easy scoring runs. Amelia once again scored 15 and was helped by Sophie and Jemima. It was neck and neck when we bowled with Spalding scoring exactly half our score off the first four overs. We then started taking wickets, including an excellent catch from Alicia. Florence bowled a great first over and was given the responsibility of the final over with 12 runs needed. She bowled full and straight and proved very difficult to score off. We finally won by one run and now play Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School in the County Final. A great effort girls!
